European and US polymers fall, Asian rise. WTI and Brent Crude rise

European polymer prices fell over the week to 11th October. There were reductions of 10 and 155 EUR per tonne reported in the prices of PVC and Polystyrene. In the UK, prices rose against some grades as the Pound lost value against the Euro.

 

Asian polymers rose with increases of 10 and 60 USD per tonne reported in the prices of Polypropylene and PET. In China, the prices of HDPE, LDPE, LLDPE, PET and Polypropylene rose by between 5 and 15 USD per tonne.

 

U.S. polymers fell with reductions of between 5 and 8 Cents per pound reported in the prices of HDPE, LDPE, LLDPE, Polypropylene and Polystyrene.

 

West Texas Intermediate and Brent Crude oil rose to $75.50 and $78.79 per barrel respectively, increases of 1.8% and 0.8%.

 

Global oil prices rose slightly on fears of a potential attack on Iranian oil infrastructure and despite news of a possible ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel.

 

Earlier in the week, Brent Crude had risen above $80 per barrel for the first time since August.

 

In the U.S., Hurricane Milton intensified into a Category 5 storm on its way to Florida after forcing at least one oil and gas platform in the Gulf of Mexico to shut.

 

U.S. crude stocks rose by 10.96 million barrels in the week to 4th October while gasoline stocks fell by 557,000 barrels.
